MEDICINAL HERBS:

Are you a registered Herbalist?

No. I would suggest you get in touch with one of the many Herbalists in our area for that level of advice and research. I am growing these herbs for my own knowledge and experience in maintaining healthy herbs and plants. If you know what herbs you are interested in purchasing, either dried, fresh, or live potted plants, then we can work with you. I will, of course, give whatever advice and knowledge I have, but I do not give medical advice.

What type of Herbal Products do you sell??

I usually have a collection of tinctures and dried herbs available. At appropriate times of the year (usually Spring and Summer) I can offer fresh herbs cut on request. In the Fall, I dig root medicines and either dry or tincture them, but can offer fresh roots when asked.

Where are you located??

We are in Timberlake, North Carolina, just north of Durham. We do not give the public our exact location for privacy reasons. The farm is not open to the public, but on occasion some customers may be invited out to gather herbs or dig plants. In that situation we will give directions. Please respect our privacy.

Do you sell living plants?

On occasion, if I have excess of a particular herb I will sell volunteers, or unwanted offshoots. Contact me for specifics.

Will you sell seeds from your Herbs?

Yes, I often collect most of the seeds produced on the farm for future generations as well as for sale.

Can I come and harvest some fresh herbs?

No... well, yes... well, maybe. We are not open to the public. If you are looking for something specific, contact me.

Can you prescribe specific herbs for my issues?

No. I am not an Herbalist. More of a niche gardener concentrating on Medicinal Herbs.

Do you grow any (fill in the blank)?

CHAMPAGNE d'ARGENT RABBITS

Do you line breed your rabbits?

Line breeding, or breeding rabbit that are closely related, is actually a pretty standard method of maintaining a line of rabbits that retain certain charactoristics. Unlike in the human population where it is not advisible to mate with close cousins, in a rabbit population the only real thing to avoid is breeding littermates. So, Mother/son, Father/daughter, etc, is fine, but siblings is not done. We do not sell breeding pairs or trios that have the males from the same litter as the females. Often a trio consists of a male from one litter and two females from a different litter - that is acceptable..

How old are your breeding pairs or trios?

Ordinarily, I grow-out my litters until the 10-12 week old point. At that time they are sexed and separated from each other. Occasionally, I will sell an experienced pair or trio, and they are around 1 to 2 years old. Having an experiienced rabbit (meaning they have successfully bred already and shown good mothering skills) gives a better assurance of successful breeding when you get them.

What is the difference between Purebred and Pedigreed?

These are not the same terms. Purebred, which is all of our rabbits, comes from a continuous line of the same breed, in our case the Champagne d'Argent breed. Pedigreed simply means I will give you a piece of paper showing the ancestral line of the rabbit back three generations before the one being sold. Obviously, you can have a purebred and pedigreed rabbit... which, again, is all we have.

When is your next litter for sale?

We ordinarily only breed our two Breeder Does twice a year for a Spring and Fall littler. So, 4 times a year I should have something available. Keep an eye on our AVAILABLE RABBITS page for information.

I'm looking for a breed-ready pair or Trio. Have any?

Not very often. I rotate my breeders every 2-3 years and will post their availability on this site. Unlike the sale of kits, breeders may be reserved well in advance. Contact me for details.

Can I keep a rabbit I get from you as a pet?

Sure

Do you sell processed meat, or will you proces my rabbit for the freezer?

No. If you intend to keep rabbits for meat purposes, you need to learn the process yourself. It is rather easy.

Why do you number your rabbits instead of naming them?

These are not my pets. They are a food source for the Homestead. Kits I sell are often for the same purpose. Feel free to rename them yourselves.

Do you cage or free-pasture your rabbits?

Our breeders are each caged in their own large enclosure. They have a solid tile as well as a plastic vented resting board in each enclosure, with free quantities of Alfalfa and/or Timothy hay, and a measured amount of commercial pellets, usually about 1/2 cup. I also provide a daily handful of greens, herbs and vegetables and unlimited water. If they have been bred, they go into a larger cage until the kits are 6-7 weeks old, at which time the Doe is returned to her original cage and the kits either stay in the birthing enclosure or go out to a pastured rabbit tractor, depending on the season.
